About this Costume
- Personal Thoughts:
- When we did on our Princess Bride cosplay it got us thinking about other "cult classic" series that we loved. There are a hand full of movies that have helped define my sense of humor and personality, and Spaceballs -by Mel Brooks- is one of them! We thought it would be so much fun to do, but we never really planned on putting the effort into it.
Then one day my Fiance's mom came home with an almost exact replica of Princess Vespa's wedding dress. She found it at a yard sale for a couple dollars... Then totally out of the blue while searching for another costume item we found an exact match for Lone Starr's jacket. I'm talking right down to the stitches on the Epaulette. Thus began our quest.
Lone Starr's costume isn't much of a costume as it is just clothing... we found the shirt and pants at our local Good Will, and the only alterations we made was to sew on a missing button.
The main bit of work wasn't really even for my costume... Dark Helmet's helmet! We found some awesome tutorials for making an exact replica out of plaster and a vaccuform mold. Unfortunately for us we didn't have the equipment, time, or resources to make that work. So we settled for paper mache! The hardest part was finding something to serve as a mold. We ended up getting creative with a globe and some rolled up towels. I think we could have made it even better, but we ran out of time. :(
