Construction Details:

Oh man, where to start. These costumes (made this and also the matching Feferi for ginny) weren't exactly hard but they were time consuming since a lot of the details had to be handsewn. I hadn't worked with lace much before, but particularly with the kind I used that was thin open loops, had to be at the very least hand tacked on. Trying to pin and machine sew led to ugliness and frustration as it crumpled up and distorted in weird ways. Had to spend a lot of time actually tracking down types of lace that were appropriate too, and some of them I don't think really have an "official" name or at least a consistent one, so it was all just going by sight through tons and tons of lace.

On top of that, I wanted to be really particular about color. The original design that the art is based on is a bright purple, the "fancy" art that that the costume is actually made from is more of a pink. So, I was trying to find a middle ground of a pinkish-purple (or purplish-pink depending on how you want to look at it). So there were lots of swatch boards and deliberating as well as scouring for the "just right" colors.

So yeah, I think I spend a lot more time planning the costume than actually making it, and then the largest amount of time after that adding all the random details. The actual patterning out and sewing of the base costume was not that time-intensive and was done while watching TV.

Personal Thoughts:

I saw these designs forever ago and realized I wanted to do them, back then I even saved them in a folder called "Pimp Dreamers" because I don't think they had an official name yet. Still have a couple more I'd like to do from that series as will as a few other designs by that artist (Rumminov on tumblr). Originally supposed to be for Animazement, then AnimeNext, but I kept running into delays.
There's a few things I'd like to fix asap before wearing again, mainly getting better fur (I really didn't like this one, but used it out of necessity because I couldn't keep waiting, but found a good one right before otakon) and adding a few of the missing details (there's a line of trim/cording along the bottom edge that I left off because I ran out of time, and I used the Fef lace on the cuffs but want to go back and make the right trim for the cuffs, and there's a scalloped decorative stitch that I left off in two places (collar and cuffs) because I'm in the middle of moving and didn't want to drag out a second sewing machine just for one decorative stitch.
