About this Costume
Construction Details:
~Skull hair clip made of sculpy light, painted with acrylic paint and coated with a clear coat. Clip glued to the back.

~ Kimono made with a snowflake printed cotton fabric. Lined with a plain white cotton since the snowflake fabric was kinda see through. All the cottons used for the kimono are prints to add more texture to the over all look since her outfit is quite plain. The yellow has flowers on it and the red is cross hatched.

~ Obi- Used yellow printed cotton and the thickest interfacing that Joann's sells for both that and the bow. Hand sewed extra strength magnets to one side and a long, flat piece of metal made for hinges on the other side. A strong magnet was also sewn into the bow. So everything is held together by magnets.

~ Wig- Bought a wig with a light blue to dark blue gradient on ebay. When I got it, it was waaaay thinner than I expected. Since I couldn't spare cutting any extra hair for the bangs, I bought clip on bangs that were supposed to match the top of the wig. Sadly when it arrived in the mail, it was not a close color match. Funny enough I had bought a wig over a year ago that DID match the bangs. Because that wig was easier to style for her crazy bangs, I decided to use that as the top of the wig and other as the bottom. So I Frankensteined the wig using 2 wigs and clip in bangs.

~Shoes- ahhahah this part was the most difficult and time consuming.I didn't expect it to be, so it took up most of my time of any other costumes I was gonna work on. Aw well. :/ First step was to find accurate wooden shoes. Traditional geta shoes weren't exact, so I decided to make my own. Eh...soooo I bought on ebay vintage wooden clogs. Took apart the shoes completely until it was just the wooden platform. I tried sanding it down with my dremel only to find that the wood is soft and leaves dips if I used it. So I had to sand it all by hand. Sanded both down to the original wood. Then used wood conditioner in order to make sure the varnish would stain evenly. After the wood conditioner, I coated it with a wood stain that was a natural color. 2 coats after that I used a water based polyurethane. I had to hand sand it between coats, wait hours for it dry. I think I did around 3 coats of that before I drilled a hole where between my big toe would be. I inserted a gold metal tube in the hole with E600 and hammered it in. The top of the gold tube had a hole where I nailed and glued in the red thong piece into it. Then the sides I nailed into the wood with furniture studs with E6000 on them. Finally I wrapped and glued the gold tubes with red fleece so it wouldn't hurt my feet.

I used blue contact lenses to get Yukiko's eye color. ^__^
Personal Thoughts:
My love of this show..OMG! *___* It brings me a nostalgic feeling. It belongs in my 2005 anime love timeline, even though it didn't come out until 2011. Yukiko hime is the princess of the snow. Always feeling cold like myself, with her love of the adorable demon Prince of fire, Enma-kuuun! I love how this show got me on a Go Nagai show watching spree! You can watch this show under the title "Ghastly Prince Enma, burning up!" On crunchy roll.
