About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
This costume actually took 6 months to make because I kept losing motivation to do it. The butterflies are all screen printed on with hand painted white detailing. The roses on the obi are machine embroidery with hand painted vine work. The butterfly in my hair and on the obi are actually Christmas decorations that I picked up in January when they were on clearance and I had just started to work on the costume.
- Personal Thoughts:
- The embroidery on the obi alone took about 20 hours to do. Each rose took over an hour and both sides of the obi have the embroidery on it. It also took about 10 hours to paint all the vines on it. The butterflies also took several hours because I could only do one butterfly at a time and then had to wait for them to dry before doing another. The white accent took about 1/2 an hour per butterfly...and there are 35 butterflies on the entire kimono.
