Need Help Choosing a Cosplay for My First Convention!

Post by stteveeesmith » Wed Aug 28, 2024 10:59 pm

Hey everyone!

I am gearing up for my first convention and I am super excited,, but I am having a hard time deciding on a cosplay.

I want to pick something that’s manageable for a newbie,, but still looks great. I am into anime.., so I am considering characters from My Hero Academia or Attack on Titan.

My main concerns are ::-
  • Complexity: I am not super experienced with sewing or prop-making, so I need something that’s not too complicated.
  • Comfort: I’ll be wearing this for a whole day, so comfort is key!
  • Popularity: I don’t want to pick something that’s too obscure, but I also want to stand out a bit.
Any suggestions for characters or tips on how to make a great first cosplay: ?? Also, if you’ve got any advice on where to get good materials or tutorials, I would really appreciate it! I also read this thread https://www.acparadise.com/forums/viewtopic.phptensorflow?f=13&t=14126 but couldn't get the solution.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey! Congrats on gearing up for your first convention—so exciting! 😊

For a manageable cosplay as a newbie, I think My Hero Academia has some great options that are simple but still eye-catching. Characters like Deku or Todoroki could be great choices. Their costumes aren’t too complex, and you can focus on details like Deku’s green jumpsuit or Todoroki’s half-and-half hair/makeup, which would definitely stand out!

If you’re leaning towards Attack on Titan, maybe try Eren or Mikasa. Their Scout Regiment uniforms are pretty recognizable and can be bought as a full set if sewing isn’t your thing yet. Plus, they look awesome!

As for comfort, I recommend using breathable fabrics and wearing comfy shoes. Conventions can be long, and the last thing you want is to be stuck in something super hot or tight.

For materials, places like Joann Fabrics or Walmart are good for basic fabrics and foam for props. For tutorials, YouTube is your best friend—there are tons of beginners’ guides to sewing or crafting cosplay props. I’ve also found some helpful patterns on Etsy.

Hope this helps! You’ll have a blast at the con! 😄
