Looking to get started

I have always had an interest in cosplay. I always watch the many videos posted on youtube and always wanted to get into it.
Me and my girlfriend actually tried for the first time to dress up as one of our favorite anime characters. This past Halloween we went as Maka and Soul from Soul eater. We both actually had a lot of fun and decided to definitely cosplay again and eventually go to a Convention.

What makes a good cosplayer?
