Ok,it works :P
My opnions for you newbie is
- dress:
To get the fabric from market, the fabric i suggest is cotton.
To draw the shape of the pattern of every piece at the paper seperately according your body size. You know most clothes are made by many pieces.
Then put the shape paper on your body to check the size,if correct then cutting the fabric as the shape of paper.
Pay attention:to left 1or 2cm border for sewing.

The last step is to sew all pieces together as the pattern of pictures.

- shoes:a red dancing shoes might be suitable.

Hope you can get your first costume well.

Addtional,i make a ad for myself

I'll be going to Anime St. Louis in March! Erm, maybe! =D
And I'll either be cosplaying Mitsuki or Colette Brunel from Tales of Symphonia!

Oh, and when you finish your costume, you better post a pic! ;3

I would actually suggest a certain type of cotton fabric stretch twill. Not only is the fabric thick but it will have more give at the waist so it won't pucker in the back when the fabric tries to stretch.

As for the pattern... I would make a mock up of cheap fabric first before even attempting to sew it with the good fabric. I always take my measurements and add 1/2 inch for each seam I put in. For each piece I add an inch. You can always take fabric in but can never make it bigger!

On the collar piece interfacing is going to be needed.

You may actually need a small peticoat for this dress to get it to puff out like that.

I hope this additional info helps!
