Question about Coloring Fabric

Post by hyperionwitch » Wed Jun 07, 2006 9:47 am

Okay, I have these boots that I need to color (they are white and I need them to look more like khaki). However, they are made of this strange, plastic-like fabric. Maybe it's vinyl? I don't know. Anyway, is there any way to evenly color it (like, markers could work, but I don't think it would be very even at all)?

Thanks!

I spray painted my boots a year ago for AB2005. They were originally pink, but I made them turquise. You might be able to spray yours. The kind of paint we used was Design Master Spray Paint. You can pick it up at plays like AC Moore or Michael's Arts and Crafts. It worked pretty good, and didn't crack too badly when I stepped.

Make sure to paint lightly each time, 2 thin layers are better than one think layer.

There are vinyl paints too; they're less likely to crack. Usually located in the automotive section because they're meant for touching up vinyl upholstery. They don't have too many colors, but khaki might be available since it's pretty neutral.

I've had good luck with a spray paint called Fusion. It's designed for sticking to plastic, so it should work better than standard spray paint which might rub off. I know they make Fusion in a light sand color.

Alright, I'm reasking my question, just in case there are other suggestions. ^^;
