Susumu Wig. (Peace Maker)

Post by Lady_Subaru62 » Tue Mar 15, 2005 9:23 pm

I was wondering if any one had any tips on cutting a wig to look like Susumu from peacemaker. I am going to start with a long black wig. Or if I should start with something eles. And how should I cut it? And how coould I keep it spiked like it is. Thanks

I think you may me better off starting with a "Tina" or "punk" type of wig that's already spiked. Then you'd only have to worry about clumping the spikes together and making them go the correct direction with little to no cutting involved. Making the hair go toward the left is pretty simple (pretty much the same as Katie Bair's straightening method only upside down): pin wig to styro head, fill a kettle with water, heat until real hot but not boiling (wastes less water than running bath faucet until hot), hold wig head upside down over sink or bathtub, carefully pour water bit by bit on parts of wig that you want to change. Adjust the angle you hold the wig head so that the water runs in the direction you want the hair to end up going and continue pouring and checking. Make sure to keep it mostly upside down because you don't want to completely flatten all the spikes. Don't let the hot kettle touch the wig or yourself. Allow wig to dry upside down overnight. Then you can use hairspray or whatever works to style and freeze the spikes.

I really don't think that the character's hair is suppose to be at that angle...? Maybe it's just the picture.

With the wig the only part you are going to see it the top and the long part at the back. I am wearing a headband. So I dont haft to worry about the sides.

I dunno. Whether it's centered or angled left or right, I just think it's easier to start with a spiked wig when trying to do a spiked style. :) And for this character, a "Tina/punk" wig would also have the longer, mullet-ish hair down the neck.

But If I were to spike it myself, how would I make the spikes stand up like that.

Try the technique described by Matt Miller in his Spotlight interview:

It's right under the Cloud photo where he goes into detail about styling a wig into spikes. He even recommends a couple of products. ^_^

I don't think anything that strong is required. Just cut it to the appropriate length and then turn the wig upside down on the foam head. Just shape and spray some hairspray.

When I look at the pics that I have it looks like the spikes do not start at his head. They like are at the top of his hair. And that it leans to one side.

You can still do what Hemuloki-sama said about hanging the wig upside down and using hairspray. If you start with a non-spiked wig, you'll still have to spray the "roots" to get the hair to stand up, then you start shaping about halfway toward the ends of the hair to pinch it into fat spikes like in the drawings. If you start with a spiked wig, you only have to shape and pinch the spikes toward the ends/top and not worry so much about getting the hair to stand up since the wig already does that.

So to get the Spikes I hang it upside down and spray the heck out of the roots of the wig. Then I let it sit to dry then I can make the Spikes? Is there something eles that I can use to make the hair stand up rather then HairSpray. Wont it make the wig look white?

Okay, you spray the roots just to make sure that it stands up. That is still a lot of weight on the spikes. Then you spray the entire head and then shape into spikes after that.

When you let it sit to dry, make sure that it stays upside down.

But you can use caulk, styling glue, or hairspray. Really only the three since anything else really won't work. Hairspray is strong enough for your wig since you don't want to overkill on caulk and I can imagine that you want to eventually use it for something else.

Anyway, it doesn't turn your wig white...>.> Unless you spray like 40 pounds on it.
