Help sewing silk designs for Taako from TAZ

I’ve been doing minor cosplaysfor years now with a few bigger sewing projects here and there but I have about 3-4 months before my next con and I want to do something big for it.
I decided to go with Taako Taaco from The Adventure Zone and I’m using coffeepotcat’s fancy af design. I already have all of my fabric picked out (not bought yet just in case) and for the purple skirt I was thinking about doing a purple silk with blue polyester underneath and then making the decorations with gold silk and jewels (I’m not sewing all those tiny circles no way). My big concern is just making them clean, specifically the gold band that wraps all the way around the bottom of the skirt. I was debating cutting out long strip(s) of the gold silk then folding in the edges to get a clean crease and consistent width but that seems unnecessarily complicated.
Anyone have any tips???

Nice work. I like the stick detail. It was exactly like in my
slope imagination. What software did you draw it with?

For the gold band, consider using bias tape or fusible webbing for a cleaner, more consistent finish. It’ll save you time while keeping everything neat and polished without the hassle of folding the fabric yourself.

That sounds like such a fun and dazzling project, coffeepotcat’s Taako design is gorgeous! For that gold band, I totally get wanting it to look clean without overcomplicating things. One option that might simplify things a bit is using fusible interfacing on the back of your gold silk to give it structure before cutting—helps prevent fraying and makes it way easier to work with. Then you could topstitch or even use fusible web (like HeatnBond) to attach it cleanly around the hem without having to fold the edges under. That way you still get a crisp look without fiddling with tiny seam allowances. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!

You're totally right to not sew all those tiny circles by hand—jewel appliqués, heat-set gems, or fabric paint + stencils are your friend for that
