making plushies

Post by AdrienneO » Wed Sep 29, 2004 5:25 pm

I need to make a plushie as an accessory to one of my costumes.

I think I'm ok on drafting the pattern, I just want a suggestion on what kind of fabric to use.

Most fan-made plushies I've seen are made of felt, but I'm not crazy about the texture of felt, so I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions. Tips are welcome.

Thank you. <3

If you don't like the feel of that material, try using expensive silk. XD

try cotton. Cheap. Abundant. Variety. It works.

Yeah. I think some good cotton would work for the large pieces and for smaller ones you could use broadcloth. I know, I know, it's broadcloth. But it's good for some things, you know. What specific plushie are you trying to make?
It's not love that makes the world go 'round; it's fanboys and fangirls.

Check the section with cloth for making things for babies. There's usually really good stuff for plusies there. Like the knit fabrics, the really tight ones, they are great!

What do you exactly wish to make? Is it a furry like character or something more smooth? (If you can think of the little Punyan creature from Loki then it would be smooth! ^^;;)

For a furry animal, you can always go extreme and use fake fur - And make your plushie look really convincing.
