Also, if you're anywhere near a Hot Topic their "Morbid Make-up" white cake powder covers VERY well, better than theatre versions of white face stuff. It stay pretty well too, i recomend more than one layer.

patterns, that they sell at fabric stores showing you how to make an outfit. they have big catelogues in the back of fabric stores, these catelogues have names like "simplicity" look through those books for a design that looks like what you need. then you buy the pattern and try to modify it to look...

that's a pretty darn difficult costume for a first costume. Right, first you find a pattern that is as close to that outfit as you can possible get, then you modify it so that it looks closer. Armor, i'm not much of an armor expert, so hopefully someone else can help you with prop making suggestions.

Look at Salvation Army, Goodwill, and other such places for the shorts. well most "starter packs" come with a tool, and you just need a hammer and a flat surface. though the bigger tools make things easier.

That hakama pattern is great too, the pleats are a bit difficult, but the thing comes out great. One of my friends who doesn't even really know how to sew is making a really nice one.

wow, those are going to be tough. Well leather is a bitch to sew, so i'd recomen getting the most leather looking stuff you can find.
