Construction Details:
I don't even know where to start ;____; I'll just briefly go over everything.

I made ALL of the cloth parts on this cosplay. I created all the patterns from scratch, and sewed it all myself. The layered high-low dress, gloves, bolero, hair bow and even the pink socks! The white fabric was 100% polyester peachskin (about 9 yards), and the pink was 100% polyester poplin.

The dress was two large circle skirts, and I gathered all of the ruffles in the end. I used a total of 5 petticoats to make a similar puffy skirt to the original magical girl version, and also to make it look like the 1/8 scale figure by Good Smile.

The pink underskirt was 100% polyester satin that had an ombre effect, and bejeweled with about a couple hundred Swarovski crystals and regular rhinestones. To create the ombre effect, I used floral spray paint and lightly layered blues and purples to create the look. To make the scalloped edges, I used heat n' bond to bond the poplin and satin under skirt together, then I took a rotary cutter with a scallop blade and carefully cut the layer of the three together. By doing that, the edges stayed and never frayed.

The gems are clay covered in red enamel.

The semi-transparent wings were made out of lexan plastic. My first pair of wings were made out of regular plastic sheet, but since it was so big, they easily broke in two when someone slammed into me during Fanime 2013. I decided to invest and buy lexan, which is unbreakable no matter how far it bends, and also create the semi-transparent look like in the figures. The pattern for the wings were drafted by me, but since I live in an apartment building, I had my boyfriend cut it for me. I ombre painted it in the end.

Additionally, the bow is made of wood, and was also created by my boyfriend because of my situation. He also added LEDs to the gems.
Personal Thoughts:
I really wanted to go above and beyond with this cosplay, and try new things that other cosplayers who did this didn't do. For example, I really wanted semi-transparent wings like the figure, but I wasn't able to make it as thin and accurate as I want to prevent damages like my first pair of wings.

Anyways, my inspiration for the look of this cosplay was Madoka's innocence. I can't really explain it, but in my mind, I picture Madoka saying, "やさしいね?" and it made me choose softer colors, makeup, etc. I wanted to capture her gentle nature, and create uniformity by only using one shade of white and one shade of pink through out the cosplay.
