About this Costume
Construction Details:
Hat: oval top with a band. satin bow and organza pinned to the back, barrettes sewn on the inside to keep it on the wig
Choker: free handed both blue and pink, pink edges finished with satin stitch, rivets put in the center and ribbon threaded through them.
Jacket: I know it was more of a magenta in the original illustrations but I think the red leatherette really worked better, not to mention it wouldnt mess with my skin tone. The jacket was originally a XXXL red trench coat from the salvation army. I went this route because the $7 jacket would be much cheaper than purchasing the material on its own. So I tailored it down a lot and saved the rest of the material for all the other details.
Top: I obviously cannot count or measure since this ended up WAY shorter than I thought it was supposed to. I do plan to re make it so I don't look like such a skank. I used a simplicity corset and replaced the back panel with extra wide elastic to help with the fit.
Skirt and pink bustle: So Sheryl's design has these really sharp angles there and i figured I wouldnt be able to get those with sew and flip or normal hemming, so I went out on a limb and tried something new. I placed the two layers of each on the ironing board and between them I ironed on that 2 way stick applique stuff and ironed the living daylights out of it. Then I cut the Vs into it, and yay no fray!!!!!
Bustle: free handed with some red satin-y stuff and purple organza
Tights: I've never made tights before D: I was kind of scared. I knew that it would be hard( and expensive!) to buy a pair of tights and a matching pair of thigh highs and then have to frankenstein the tights, so I decided to make tights that looked like tights on one side and then used a flesh colored panel on the other side to make it look like a thigh high. Then the black bias tape part is just pinned there :P I used purple and flesh lycra that was AWESOME because it didnt fray when I ripped it, it just rolled up nicely. I used a Kwik sew cat suit pattern for it
Shoes: Ross. i need different ones... I hate how she has these crazy fantastic heels but when I try to wear these crazy fantastic heels, I become a 6'2-6'3 glamazon.....
Personal Thoughts:
Its been a while since I did a MF coslay and I really missed it since the designs are so beautiful! However this costume really tested my comfort zone in terms of skin showing, materials, techniques and the such. It really wasn't finished when I wore it to PMX and I'm going to keep working on it and bling it out.
