About this Costume
Construction Details:
The petticoat was the most time consuming part of the costume, taking 30+ hours to make. It's a 7 layers of organza circle skirts with bunched tulle between each later. Each layer also had two layers of manually ruffled white ribbon sewn on the edges. In all, the skirt has over 100 meters of ribbon on it. I don't recall what kind of material I made the top white skirt layer out of, but it's another circle skirt with a strip of ruffled fabric attached around the edge.

The main dress is made out of a stretch cotton sateen. All of the non-white fabric on it was dyed. The petal skirt was gradient dyed and the jewels on the tips were purchased on ebay. The red trim is red bias tape.

The red ribbon/bow around the neck and on the socks was made out of scrap silk charmeuse I had lying around. The gloves were also made out of scrap fabric. The soul gem was cast out of resin and the base was made with sculpey. The jewels on the bow were also cast out of resin. The bow was made out of coat hangers, papier macher and gesso. The flower at the top is from the dollar store.
Personal Thoughts:
I tried watching Madoka Magica on a whim and I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would. While Madoka is not my favorite out of the five, I was in the mood to do something floofy and to try my hand at gradient dyeing. Overall, I'm quite happy with how the costume came out. The skirt is a bit long and not quite as cupcake-shaped as I'd like, but I'm gonig to try and fix that up before I wear it again.

Thank you to Melonnrocher for wearing Homura with me!
