About this Costume
Construction Details:
A simple enough costume, but with enough details that had me pulling my hair out. The jacket and pants are both made of a white bottom weight fabric. The black and gold pieces are made from broadcloth. I used a more tailored jacket pattern, which still allowed me to retain the baggy look, but not look completely shapeless. The patterns on the sleeves were hand-drafted, appliqued, and satin-stitched by myself. There was applique and satin stitching on the collar as well, and the strips on the shoulders were made using the same materials for a uniform look. I elected to go with the marigold color, rather than a metallic gold, for the sake of matching more closely to the animation, and blending with the rest of our group and our very anime-like appearances. the sleeves were made a bit longer than normal, for the sake of the skit, and just because for some reason, it felt right to me. I did my best to match the color gold of the buttons, with the marigold fabric, rather than a yellow-gold.
Personal Thoughts:
I'm not really a 'fan' of Hetalia. I made this costume for our skit, but ended up having a lot of fun while wearing it. On top of that, I do feel a BIT awkward cosplaying Japan when I am definitely not asian.

Styling Notes
This wig was originally purchased to cosplay Van Fanel from Vision of Escaflowne. Years later, I still hadn't done it, so I said 'eff it' and cut the bangs for Japan.
