About this Costume
- Construction Details:
-
Coat, waistcoat, and breeches patterns were (expensive) directly based off of museum garments from 1680, the height of the Golden Age of Piracy. Coat is 100% wool, trimmed with velvet and lined with duponi silk. Waistcoat is some sort of velveteen-ish decorator fabric lined with 100% linen. Shirt is 100% linen as are the the pants. Lace cravat pinned with a vintage brooch. Blue sash is duponi silk. Current pistol is a sanded down and painted toy pistol from Disneyland (from the Pirates of the Caribbean store). Still have more to add; specifically buttons, trim, and other details.
EDIT: NOW UPDATED AND IMPROVED! Brand new replica English flintlock, fancy trim, and heavy metal buttons molded from an actual button from the 1700s. - Personal Thoughts:
- There is one official drawing of England as a pirate, and it's only a bust image and quickly sketched. I got an urge to do it, but historically accurate instead of how all the fanarts draw him. A bunch of research later... Historically accurate fabrics are expensive. haha The wool is thick, velvet likes to shed in little puffs everywhere, silk tends to pucker, and linen leaves thick threads all over. THIS OUTFIT IS NOT FINISHED. Each time I wear it, I clean it up and add more detail. Hopefully by the end I won't get mistaken for a redcoat again. Note: The trip to the tall ship location was an adventure by itself. NEEDS MORE EYEBROWS.
