About this Costume
Construction Details:
This costume was hell on earth. We apparently did not learn our lesson from last year and started really late, and yet managed to dedicate even more time on these projects than before. This was our first year competing in the Masters Division, and so we wanted to really pull out all the stops. All the armor and detail pieces, down to single beads for the ornaments, were made by hand with Wonderflex and craftfoam and handpainted. The prop was also made out of Wonderflex, but it was fashioned around an aluminum wire framework so that it had some flexibility like its shown in reference images. The shoes were built off a base, and were (thankfully) really comfortable. I could bend in them and everything ^_^. The clothes were sewn by modifying a duster jacket pattern as well as a cape pattern. We made a point of not leaving any detail out, so everything was made on this costume, from the gun with the engraved design, to the glasses (built off an old pair of frames), and the underarmor pieces usually unseen. Unfortunately, for the Masquerade in order to avoid potential accident, I had to go without some items so that I could pull off the skit we had prepared. Nothing major is missing, just my gloves and glasses really ^_^. But I'm kind of proud of those glasses, so hopefully we'll have pictures of the complete outfit soon! In total, it cost us over 400 hours of our life to complete. But we're happy with the result, and thankfully they look like they'll last for at least a while so we can make wear them more than once!
