Kirin - shirogami520 Lighting Assisstant - SailorBee The first part of the shoot went off like usually: I had no idea which poses to do and she didn\'t either. And we laughed....well giggled anyways. ^^; Later on, however, my allergies started to really kick in. Thankfully, SailorBee was with us during the shoot as lighting assistant/pose idea woman. I gave her my camera will I took a fast-acting medication. Turns out, she's not bad at shooting. Last-minute openning for me to go to this mini-convention. That beings said, this is probably one of the better (if not the best) student-run conventions. Only real complaint is the weather, but that's to be expected from the fact that it is located in Davis. I wasn't expecting much, but I managed to hang out with LimitlessEdge and Save Colbat cosplay. I have to say that after this, I had never been so physically drained in my life. The cosplay check-in at Civic Center had practically ZERO shade thanks to someone grooming the trees and forgetting portable tents for shade and it was one of the hottest days in SF so far. I should be surprised how many cosplayers managed to last this long in the heat, particularly with heavy props, multiple layers, and non-walking shoes. I was hoping to do shoots at Civic Center, but with the intense sun, it was practically impossible so I just shot the parade. Unfortunately, the creepy photographers (aka people who shoot at random without asking or giving a place where they post these pics) were in full force. Made a lot of cosplayers uncomfortable. It sure killed my ability to do photoshoots. Afterwards, my legs gave out and I just rested in the Hotel Kabuki's garden. Took me about an hour on the cold rocks before I even tried to get back up. Emma Frost - SupaTuna Cosplay I kinda wish I brought my lights with me that day (left them in the luggage since I was tired) cause I could've done more "devious and evil" shots for her. This was new for both of us, her being an evil character, so it was more model photos than what might be appropriate, but I still think we did pretty well. Lots of derping too so it was a fun shoot. Black Canary - Kazumi Cosplay By this point, we managed to time the fountains fairly well, which is good since her outfit was more matte black and harder to see without a background. Still, she had great poses so it was easy to just hold down the shutter. Zatanna - Sylpharios Erebus Finally had the light calibrated at this point do once again I did some more controlled bursts instead of just full-auto fire. The fountains were still unpredictable but later on during the shoot, we managed to time the shots with the fountains rising. Dante - Brinni Most people by this time were at the cosplay masquerade. I stopped going to these things since I\'ll want to waste my memory chips trying to get people on stage and I didn\'t qualify for a press badge (not surprising, I only post pics slowly and almost never do write-ups that draw in people). So I was heading back to the hotel, when I saw a group of cosplayers and photographers setting up shop at the fountain. I decided to quickly pull out my gear and she was more than willing to shoot with me. Suddenly the fountains kept springing up so I kept holding down the shutter. I didn\'t have a lot of time to set up my off-camera flash so the lighting isn\'t as even (or effective) as I would have liked but it was moving quickly. I think all these photos took place in about 12-20 minutes? All with an unpredictable fountain routine in the background. Dr. Doom - Constantine In Tokyo Weirdest cosplay I ever saw? Nope. Weirdest mixture of themes in design and character. YUP! It's.....odd shooting this like a menacing figure and then to shoot more like a pin-up model all in one shoot. It's sexy with the skirt and bra, mysterious with the cape and hood, and then scary with the mask. Definitely had a hard time holding my serious face doing this shoot.
