About this Costume
Construction Details:
All sewn components were done by me. This includes the skirt, undershirt, fingerless gloves, and flappy straps that went under the armor pieces. It was a lot less sewing involved since a lot more effort went into the armor. All armor parts were made out of varying thicknesses of EVA foam. The armor had several layers of Plastidip which was then layered with some layers of white primer, then some layers of the actual color spray paint, and the smaller gold details were either hand painted on or draw on with a very opaque marker. The shield uses a base Captain America shield and is 2 feet across in diameter. EVA foam was used for the wings and the inner shield lines were made of craft foam. Googly eyes were used for the berries. The back of the shield is made of Sintra and the design was printed from the print store, laminated for protection and gloss effect, and then glued at the center of the Sintra.
Personal Thoughts:
I thought a month would be enough time to efficiently work on this outfit... IT WORKED OUT, BUT JUST BARELY. It doesn't help that I had ideas on how to do everything by watching a lot of YouTube videos but for 95% of the time, I was going in blind. I had a TON of assistance for the detailing since it was so time consuming, but the majority of the patterning, cutting, dremeling, sanding, and painting was done by me..... The learning curve was intense during those weeks. @_@;;;; Fortunately, I had a lot of discussion and ideas bouncing around during sweatshops with friends coming over so I'm really thankful not just for the physical assistance but the mental assistance! My pride and joy are the helmet and shield!~ I will have to get a proper spear in the future but in the meantime I had borrowed Woodwarder Creations' FFTactics spear! I need to remake the leg armor out of thinner foam so my calves don't look as bulky (I have meaty calves anyway lol) and make the chest armor out of thicker foam for more durability, but I'm so glad that everything ultimately worked out!! SUCH RELIEF IT'S (mostly) OVER!! T__T I miss struggling over sewing LOL
