About this Costume
Construction Details:
I want to thank Sasha Dee and Bluucircles for all the verbal and drawn advice on making these jackets, so that we would all match better! I started with many many yards of black PVC vinyl. After doing a muslin to make sure I had the correct fit and patterned the (functioning!) pockets correctly, I went to work making several yards of black vinyl piping. Considering the piping filler was 3/8", you can imagine my machine had a fun time chugging through that (thank God for the Teflon foot). After completing the pockets, which are sandwiched between the front-side dart and the side seam of the jacket, I made the back, sewed them together at the sides and shoulders, and then based where I'd put in my zipper on how much room was left. Sleeves were cut and then attached with piping around the sleevehole, and I hand-drafted a hood based off the final measurement of the neck.

nnTo create the silver hardware, I bought some chain, large clasps, and metal rope from Home Depot. I painted some simple spool shapes silver, then threaded them onto the chain links using plain jewelry wire and pliers. To make the drawstring baubles, I glued two wood balls together, molded melted Worbla onto each end, drew accent lines using a hot glue gun, and then spray painted everything silver. I sandwiched a small fabric loop under the chest piping in the front to give the neck hardware something to hang onto, and used an awl and some decorative stoppers to attach the drawstrings. We all bought the same pleather gloves and I created quick ankle-up boot covers from more vinyl.
