Construction Details:

The red top and red pant ties are made from a deconstructed red silk jacket and camisole set that was found at a thrift shop. The pants are made from a pair of extremely large navy sweatpants, altered to fit and the extra fabric was used for the wrist cuffs. The gold trim on the jacket is made from cotton cording encased in stretchy gold PVC fabric. I styled the wig myself; it is an Arda Malinda in Maroon.

Personal Thoughts:

Ranma 1/2 was one of the very first anime series that I really got into, and girl-type Ranma was one of the first costumes that I made back when I was a newbie cosplayer. Sadly, the first version of this costume didn't make it to any conventions because it was pretty awful and I messed up the wig badly. I always wanted to complete this costume, so I decided to finally do it. Nostalgia bomb!

Styling Notes

This wig is sewn upside down, which makes it poofy on top. I carefully pulled down a bunch of the hair in the front and curled it forward using a flat iron. I trimmed the bangs and then wrapped them in large curlers and lots of hairspray overnight. The next day I used more flat ironing and hairspray to force that giant bang curl into submission. Then parted to the side a bit. The rest of the hair was gathered into a ponytail and tied into sections using small rubber hair ties. I stuck a thick piece of wire through the ponytail so that I could curve it upwards.
