About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- Originally started off as my halloween costume for 2009. I got so much positive feedback from it I decided it should be debut at a con. This dress is different then my halloween one though. I actually constructed this dress as if it were a real everyday wear gown.
The dress itself is made of a semi stretch printed suede. It has tiny black roses all through it that are a satin feel. The rest of the dress is a suede touch. The sleeves go down into a point at the hand where a loop goes over my finger to keep it in place. A bunch of spare spider lace and other random black lace and printed black fabric went into the dress bottom. Nothing is hemmed, it is all tattered and uneven. There is multiple layers to it to create a full look. It trains out in the back alot like Morticia's dress did in the 90s movies.
I took inspiration from both the movies and the older tv show.
The makeup is where I could get creative with this. Black, grey and white eyeshadow was used to create Morticia's heavy eyeshadow look. I mixed ivory foundation with a tiny bit of halloween white face paint for the super pale look.
Bright red lipstick was the last thing I used. The nails I painted with a blood red nail polish.
For props I used a fake rose and a pair of sheers to mimic the look of her infamous rose cutting.
Elemental was kind enough to make me me a paper chain of people as well :)
Jay made a Gomez suit to go along with me :)
The reactions we got from people at the con was pretty amazing. I will wear this one to a con again for sure!
- Personal Thoughts:
- Such an iconic character and family for that matter! I have loved her dress in every form we have seen it. From the 60s tv show to the 90s movies. It made a great Halloween costume. It proved to be a great con costume as well!
- Styling Notes
- The wig is Natalie XL in natural black. I went with a wavy style rather then just totally straight. This is how it is straight out of the package. I only lifted the front bangs up slightly.
- Wig Review
- Awesome wig. Looks natural and has alot of body to it cause of the waves.
