Cosplayer Cepia > Costume of Kobato from Kobato
About this Costume
- Construction Details:
Dress: Cotton sateen strapless bodice with attached sheer yoke, collar and sleeves, both trimmed with gold filigree beads and bias tape. The collar has a strip of clear plastic sewn into it so it keeps it's shape and transparency. The skirt is two full circle skirts made from plain cotton. There's a petticoat under it to give it some poof.
Bloomers: Cotton sateen with gold buttons (I was so happy to find them because they match my beads!)
Vest: More cotton sateen, with cotton ruffles, trimmed with insertion lace with blue ribbons, floral appliques and gold buttons. Since the ruffles are continuous around the neckline of the vest I rigged an opening off to one side with snaps.
Vest pins: I bought fake white daisies and colored them with rit dye. I added some ruffled trim and lace to pin at the bottom of the vest. The striped ribbon bow is also a pin.
Hat: I made a base with stiff felt and added alligator clips to attach it to the wig, which worked out very well. I glued feathers to the base until I liked the shape and then added more daisies, some sheer ruffles, pink flowers and berries.
Shoes: Bought them on ebaaaaay.
Bouquet: I hunted for similar flowers at craft shops and arranged them with styrofoam in a basket I had.
(I also made the wrap she has in the illustration but didn't bring it at Katsu because it's a bit cumbersome and I didn't want to step on the beads :P)
- Personal Thoughts:
- When the cover art for the Kobato artbook was released I instantly knew I had to make it. A little over a year later, I finished it for Katsucon, and it's definitely my favorite out of all my Kobato outfits! It was also really-super-extra-special since my friend Moira cosplayed with me as Kohaku from Wish and I really love the little friendship these two have, they're just too sweet!
- Styling Notes
- I trimmed the bangs, cut the wig short and razored the ends. I have a few different add-ons for this wig to get her length (long extensions, shorter extensions and twin braids, depending on the outfit)
- Wig Review
- I've had this wig for years and I'm amazed that it hasn't kicked the bucket after all the Kobato cosplays I've made! ^^; It's really lucky, actually, because they don't make this color anymore! :(
