About this Costume
Construction Details:
This costume was much harder than expected! I had to draft the patterns for my dress, gloves and boot covers, and do a LOT more handsewing than anticipated, because the purple vinyl wouldn't run through my machine without sticking, even with a teflon foot.

I decided on vinyl for everything, because I decided on this gorgeous, leather-like matte black vinyl, and thought a purple to match would look great. Unfortunately, I had to learn the hard lesson that photographed vinyl apparently looks MUCH different than it does in real life, and since I had to order the vinyl online since I had no local source, I had to get three different colored vinyls before getting one that would work. D:

The black vinyl was a 4 way stretch that was a dream to work with. Felt just like leather, and I could sew on top of it as easy as I could with a cotton, which made stitching the seams down (since ironing was out of the question) super easy, and made the dress seams look super nice.

The gloves were fitted exactly to my arms, and I'm super happy with how they look, but it was a pain to try moving my arms, and when I took them off I had angry red lines on my skin from the seams and wrinkled from moving my arms lol.

The boot covers still need some work. I actually had to finish them in the hotel room (which hasn't happened in YEARS o__o), so I didn't have time to try making the weird purple shin cover thing. It was also my first time making boot covers, not to mention thigh high one's and they did NOT stay up at all. A friend recommended getting some dancer tights, and sewing velcro to those, and having the boot covers attach to those, so I'll be trying that for the future. D:

Also obviously had no time to make the weapons, but I got the materials for them, so hopefully I'll have those done for when I do my next photoshoot.

All in all, I was really proud of the costume, and happy to show of my love for Type/Moon. I hope to get Saber's default outfit done soon, as soon as I can stop feeling intimidated by her weird dress and armor. D:
Personal Thoughts:
This costume was much harder than expected! I originally chose Rider because I REALLY wanted to make Saber, but thought I wouldn't have time to make her dress and armor, so I figured Rider would be a much easier option lol. Plus Rider is amazing.

Styling Notes
I was super concerned going into this, because I've never cosplayed as a character with such long, flowing hair. After doing some research, I found a thread on cosplay.com that talked about how awesome silicon-based lubricant spray was for detangling wigs, and keeping them detangled. I used B'laster Silicon Spray, and it was AWESOME! Easy to use, and so efficient I could run a fine-toothed comb through the wig! Wig still got a little tangled while wearing it of course, but could have been much worse~
