About this Costume
Construction Details:
for both versions of the costume, the jacket, shirt, and vest were thrifted or pulled from my closet and modified. the hair clip was made from ribbon I had in my stash, folded and stitched down, then hot glued to a rose, then hot glued to a hinged clip.

for the first version, I made the stockings from knits I found at SAS the night before the con. I made a pattern to fit my leg then cut up the strips with seam allowance added, and put elastic in the tops to help them stay up. I underestimated the amount they would stretch when I wore them, so the stripes are thinner than they should be. I used the skirt from my Mika Harima costume since I had obviously run out of time to make one. I figured this would be no big deal seeing as I could count on one hand how many people I knew in Arizona who were Umineko fans, but not only did I meet EBK for the first time at Sabo 2011, but it turns out he's a Seacats fan too. and there was a much larger Seacats fandom here than I would have ever expected! so I decided to make improvements to the costume when I had time.

knowing I would be going to Fanime, where they could actually have Umineko gatherings and have people attend, I knew I had to make some improvements. the skirt was made from a quilter's cotton I found at SAS - much nicer and thicker than the usual broadcloth. I added box pleats to the top and bottom layers separately and attached them both - my first time making a pleated skirt and I essentially had to make TWO skirts. I added matching lace from SAS around the hem of both layers and to the cuffs of the jacket. the stockings were re-made with the same fabrics, but with obviously larger stripes to be more accurate, and tighter elastic in the top. they were also made much better and the fit was improved as well. I might also add that neither version of the stockings are full length - like my Mami stockings, since only part of them shows, I made them only as long as they needed to be to tuck into my boots.

the cane is one of my first ventures into sculpting and actual prop making, though it was pretty easy. the cane itself is just a wooden dowel, painted and lacquered. the handle I patterned myself after the sprite from Ougon Musou Kyoku - so it's not as detailed as the anime/VN version. I cut out the pattern four times from thicker sheets of craft foam and glued them together with craft foam glue, carving a space in the center to put the dowel in. after gluing both halves together, I covered the foam in Model Magic and lots of gesso. after much sanding and spray painting, I finished it with the same gloss lacquer. the handle and dowel come apart for easier transport.
Personal Thoughts:
IT'SA PAAAAAAAAFECTO

it will be a long time before I retire this crazy bitch. I love her so much, more than I ever thought I would [thanks to chapter 7 of Chiru...]

Umineko Beatrice
Styling Time
15 minutes
Wig Quality Rating
3 / 5.00
Styling Notes
just have to re-do the curls every now and then, it doesn't like my curling iron much though.
Wig Review
it's a little difficult to maintain and there's a big glob of glue on the bun. still, cheaper and nicer looking than every other pre-styled Beato wig I'd seen.
