About this Costume
- Construction Details:
- I altered a commercial pattern for a girl's nightgown since I'd never made a dress with a yoke before for the dress. I changed the back, sleeve cuffs, and collar to match. It's made of 100% heavy rough spun cotton, which I figured would be appropriate for a plain girl like Sophie. However, for the white trim on the collar, I went with a little lace, foregoing piping, to add a little excitement! The apron is made of white tissue linen (cotton/linen blend).
I was planning on resuing the bloomers I made for Kotori on the costume's first run, but I left them at home. Next time, though! I ended up wearing long black trouser socks instead of full length black stockings at Otakon to compensate for the heat. - Personal Thoughts:
- I've always loved Howl's moving Castle, and my friend Ion had cosplayed Howl before. I was talking to her about possibly making Sophie, and she offered to make another Howl to go with me. I chose to do Sophie with short hair because I think she looks much cuter that way. And of all her dresses, I felt her blue dress with the apron was the best looking. (I like her yellow dress too XD) I'm really glad that I was able to make this costume for Otakon, because I wasn't able to finish it for Colossal. It's incredibly easy to wear, although I feel pretty frumpy in it! XD

- I had to cut a considerable amount off and do a lot of thinning because the wig was just so thick. I feathered the ends and evened it out after that.
- Wig Review
- Super thick and smooth!
