About this Costume
Construction Details:
The kimono is made of hand dyed silk. The flowers on the sleeves were done by silk painting. The kimono was constructed using typical historical Japanese methods, although it is shorter than a traditional kimono due to the character design. The flower designs on the obi were also pained on using silk painting methods. The katana is made of wood. The armor is made of craft foam backed with cotton fabric.
Personal Thoughts:
I gave this costume a 4/5 in terms of difficulty because I used so many new techniques to create this costume. All of the silk is hand-dyed and the silk painting was a completely new area for me. Furthermore, this was my first real attempt at making costume armor, and I have found that craft foam and I are not friends. Yes, I really did make those shoes by hand.
