About this Costume
Construction Details:
Made everything except for the shoes and the styling of the wig. I'll work from top to bottom: hat is made from left over blue and white dull satin fabric and craft foam to give it its shape. Black lace is fabric glued on and blue ostrich feather is cut and attached. Lots of gathering, which includes the neck collar piece, the shirt piece, sleeves and the bloomer pants along with the sash. All of that is gathered by hand. Shirt gathered piece has 3 separate pieces that were sewed together, and my sewing machine was hating me for sewing through so many layers! Pearl beads were glued on. Drafted own pattern to make the lined vest, with fabric left over from black magnet. Fabric left over from white magnet was used for the shirt, neck, and cuffs. The bloomer pants were made using a drafted pattern (its basically a really wide when its ungathered). The inside of it is lined to give it a defined poofyness. The sash is cut, gathered, sewed and edges are cut by hand and fray checked. Gems are glued on wherever there is blue fabric. The stockings were bought, then cut and I added on the lace. Shoes were bought on ebay and shoelaces were replaced with the same ribbon used for the neck piece. Overall, one of my fav costumes, but probably not the most comfortable to put on and to wear. There's just so many pieces to put on. I've made some changes since the last time I wore this costume. The purple tie around the collar is removed with the same purple fabric used for the bows on the boots. I made it a big bigger, so its more visible in the pictures. The bloomers were taken in a bit and garter clips? were added in the back to hold up the stockings. It worked ok, but somehow, the bloomers and stockings still fell down after awhile.
